  1. An album, papers, scissors, double sided tape, glue stick, stickers, chipboard embellishments, photos, smaller colored papers to mat photos.  You can make your own journaling tags.

  2. ~ these are the essentials for a newbie that I would suggest.

    1. a 12 inch paper trimmer  $20.00

    2. a good pair of standard scissors 10.00

    3. acid free adhisive (double sided tape) 5.00 to start

    4. a photo album  15.00

    5. acid free paper both printed and plain  10.00 get differant colors that you are attracted to.

    6. your pictures

I have been scrapping (20 yrs) and a manager at a scrapbook store for 10 years. These items are a basic requirement. Any extra's like chipboard, flowers, buttons, ribbon etc... are just collected over time. Bits here and there. The most important thing is your photos and your thoughts. Don't think it as a major project, just one page at a time. Start simple and work your way up. You are the judge of your own work. Scrapbooking is an art. Never compare your work to someone else's. Every painting is differant, where would Picaso be if he looked at someone else work and said my flowers don't look like that. =).  Enjoy and just relax.

After 20 years I look back at my albums and think OMG what was I thinking, so plain so boring, but I have come full circle. After all the glitz and glam I have been slowly going back to a more plain look. Focus on the pic's. But it is an awsome hobby.

  3. I would say the basics are: either straight cut or "fancy edged" scissors (to crop photos), photo corners, acid-free/lignin free glue stick, scrapbook paper, double-sided tape.

For embellishments, I like using chipboard letters, paper flowers, buttons, stickers, and ribbon. I also find that "pop-dots" (small double-sided sticky dots that make embellishments stick out for a 3-D effect) are great, and markers for "journalling". (Small tags that you write a narrative on).

  4. there are so many things you can use...string...paper clips...buttons...yarn....get yourself a pkg of paper and go for it....it is spooky at first...my kids gave me a bag full of stuff and it took a yr before i would touch it but i now have 11 or 12 albums...one for each kid and one for each grand kid...use colored pencils....chalk...you can find lots of free stuff on the internet...have fun...go to dollar stores...they have lots of stuff to get you going
