What are the needs of service user's / RE social work?

Hi Could anybody share what they think to be the needs of servce users, and the importance of service user involvment in Social work?

  1. A basic tenant of social work is "client right to self-determination"  if a "service user" is not involved in the process they can not really be self-determining.  Also social work has a firm grounding in empowerment.  

    Now as to the needs of service users - this really depends on which area of practice, which consumers, etc.  To really find this out you need to do a needs assesment.

  2. the essential needs of service users, regardless of the service being provided, is for their situation to be assessed in a holistic manner,to be heard, and to be treated as a human being ( not a statistic ).

    a service user must be involved in all decisions/ developments made in their case at all stages
