  1. The impact of advertising is extreme, and has been growing since the 80's. It's had an effect on what we buy and what we eat, making us very dependant on material things that we don't need.

For example, credit card debt would not be nearly as bad as it is today if people weren't hit with so many new things to buy. People are constantly racking up their credit cards and spending money they don't have, only to be paying those bills off for the rest of their life. And, to get by in the US, it's very difficult without a credit card.

Obesity is also caused by advertising, as well as health problems. Food that is marketed to children (directly) at an early age causes them to want food that has nasty things such as High Fructose Corn Syrup in it. It also encourages kids to snack more often on junk food and candy. The effect is similiar on adults when we're hit with tons of ads all over the place to try new foods, eat here, shop there, and spend all the money we own on food that we don't really need.

There are two good documentaries you might be interested in. Both are free and available in multiple parts on YouTube.com:

    Hope this helps you. =)

  2. Impact on me? Not likely. All too often there is overkill. The advertisement

gets crazier and crazier to the point were you have no clou what they are advertising. In addition, I do not like to be yelled at when they

try to get a hold of my money.
