What are the negatives about being a foreigner (white skin,blue eyes) living in Beijing or Shanghai?

I say Beijing and Shanghai because in smaller cities its pretty obvious what those things are..

you could stand out and thus more likely to get mugged. other than that i don't think there is any disadvantage; they probably like exotic white women

You will stand out in the crowd.

When you goto tourist places you will be targeted by hawkers, so called students etc which can be very annoying at times.

The worse thing is that you should be the target for nationalist feelings but that is very unlikely to happen.

Besides being watched by the police? You'll get higher prices from local traders.

You stand out.  So, you would have to pay "the foreigner" price on everything.

You get stared at a lot.  You would have to learn the local culture and like the local food.

Beijing and Shanghai is also relatively expensive for foreigners to live.

they'll try to sell it to you for a higher price than its actually worth..be careful, have a friend that speaks chinese go with u to places easier to comunicate

well i'm chinese and people and pick me out as "not from around here" but if you can speak a bit of chinese they'll respect you and if you respect them you'll be fine.

rent will be higher, and sometimes they'll try to scam you. but if you let them know that you're not a tourist they'll back off.

The negatives are that you are polluting the air with your stinks!

I found that when i went to Japan, They all stared at me,

like "omg theirs a English person!" But you get used to it.

Also they try to charge you more money on stuff than they

ae actually selling them for. I went to buy a t-shirt and it was

selling for whatever, and they tried to charge me double !

- But it should be ok, If they stare, ignore them.
