  1. The Netherlands is a country in northern europe, bordering Belgium to the west and south and Germany to the east. Its northern border is along the North Sea. The national language is Dutch. The Netherlands is a conglomeration of different regions, just like any country in Europe. There are different dialects of Dutch and many cultural differences between each individual region.

  2. The Netherlands is the country...Holland is just a part of it, namely two provinces (North and South Holland)

  3. HIstorically, the Netherlands included the present day Netherlands as well as most of Belgium, Luxembourg, and some of the lands which are today part of Germany and France.  The lands originally called Holland were a couple of provinces of the Netherlands.  Today The Netherlands is sometimes referred to as Holland.  Spain owned the Netherlands and the Northern provences of the Netherlands joined together to fight against Spain and gain their independence.  They succeeded and the northern region has manitained the name 'The Netherlands'  and is a Protestant country.  Most of the southern region became what is today Belgium and is a Catholic country.  The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg have formed an economic union and are referred to as the Benelux Countries.  Their official language is Flemish except for Belgium which has two languages, Flemish and French.
