  1. Some hikers and climbers eat pesto, claiming the basil used to make it is a systemic repellant.  Used on pasta, rice, or by itself the basil, garlic, and other stuff seems to work best if eaten at least 3 times a day.  

    Somehow I tend to prefer things I can ingest rather than apply topically.  Too messy/smelly for me.

    Vitamin B1 patches may act like brewer's yeast (another B vit.), which when added to a dog's diet is sometimes good for repelling fleas.


  2. My husband is allergic to DEET. We found vitamin B1 patches. They stick to the skin like those nicotine patches. You put one on and it lasts for 12 hours. They work great. A little expensive, but worth it.
