and why do they keep changing them, cause every pub or bar i go to seem to have different rules. So before you start the game now you have to ask "which rules do you play?", otherwise it could end in arguments?

  1. when the pros play on the 8ball league on Sky Sports:

    they do play 2-shot-carry

they don't name their pocket for the black

if the opponent pots the white, you can place it anywhere behind the line and play up or down the table

at least 1 ball must hit a cushion on every shot except the break when at least 4 balls must hit a cushion.

thats all i can think of right now

  2. If a pub bar hosts a league, or competitions they should have a poster up decalring all rules.

Beats me, I used to organise a local leage and would get sent rule changes frequently.

Last stupid one I saw introduced was the at least one ball must touch a cushion on every shot, thus ruining the chance to tuck up...

  3. It is the same things as playing darts, Gin-Rummy and a host of other game like board games and poker, even playing quarters can be challanging depending on what rules you play.

I think it should be real simple, you call your shot and if anything else happens you lose your turn regardless. This way there aren't any arguments. Also if you want to jump the ball it should be allowed always as long as the shooters is responsible for the table green. If you're playing for cash, you better make sure you know what rules you're playing, if for fun it doesn't really matter too much
