Unless driving , leave the mode switch in the crossed hammer mode - denoting other work,( delivering)  if waiting at a customers premises use the square with diagonal line - (P.O.A)  &, bed for breaks.

1. Vehicles in Category C1 and above must be fitted with a tachograph and anyone driving one is subject to the driving hours rules. There is no requirement to take a test to use a tachograph so if you have your C1 entitlement then you can drive one immediately.

2. Why not ask your local job centre for advice, or the DVLC.

My best advice would be to ask a current driver of such vehicles, and ask them.
