Lots of places sell furniture made from solid wood.  Expensive furniture will be made from solid hardwoods (like oak or maple, not softwoods like pine).

Hardwood is much heavier than softwood.  But beware that particle board (cheap stuff) is just as heavy (or heavier), and it can be laminated to look like hardwood, so be careful.

Just check the stores in the phone book and ask about the furniture construction.  If they can't tell you what kind of wood materials are used, try another store.
