Currently working in the City and living in London but thinking of moving outside to get more property for my money. Can anyone point me in the right direction of nice commuter towns/villages with good connections to the city in under 45 mins by train?

  1. gatwick area, essex.

  2. Hard to say as there are many lovely places in the South East, but some of the pretty areas I know of would be Dorking, Redhill, Tonbridge, Guildford, Maidstone, fair sized towns with good facilities and good countryside within minutes, rail connections not bad and direct services to London within 40 - 60 minutes, each close to M25/M26/M20 for road connections.

Only down side is that property is expensive due to locations.

  3. St Albans has very nice areas and good rail connections

  4. slough i think

  5. Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, is lovely. You're right on the coast (the nearest seaside town to London in fact), with a fast and extremely reliable (consistently the most punctual and efficient in the country) railway line straight to the City itself (Fenchurch Street) - a bit less than 45 mins usually, and the town itself has reasonable amenties and a certain amount of charm.

And property in Essex is generally (and imho undeservedly)  cheaper than in most of the other counties that surround London!
