  1. I object to the reply stating that Ipswich is the poorer area.  I live near Ipswich, and love the place.  It is cheaper to buy a house in Ipswich, and it follows that it is also cheaper to rent than most other areas - neither of those things make it a POORER area.

Ipswich was recently voted the WORLDS most livable regional city with population 75,000 to 200,000.

    Anyway back to your question.

UQ has several options for accommodation for students, but if you wanted to rent privately then the options are also available.

Look up the local newspaper 'the Queensland Times' and check out the classifieds, or contact local real estate agents for available accommodation choices.

There is also the option of shared living to consider.

One of the benefits of living in Ipswich is that you will be close to Uni, and therefore travel costs will be reduced.

Ipswich has a direct train line into the city if you chose to go there for the nightlife, it's about 3/4 hour by road or train.

Come and visit Ipswich and make up your own mind. You can also visit http://www.ipswichtourism.com.au/about-i... it will give you an idea of what Ipswich has to offer.

  2. Paddington, West End, New farm, Newstead and there are rentals in the city.

IPSWICH is really the poorer part area and the areas between Brisbane and Ipswich may not be the nicest places. Maybe you can train it every day from Brisbane Central to Ipswich?

  3. If you want somewhere in between Brisbane & Ipswich cities, how about Springfield Lakes, River Hills and Middle Park.

    Good Luck.

  4. You wuld be able to get accommodation in Ipswich.

  5. My son lives in Sunnybank Hills, and it's very nice - lots of nice scenery, malls, banks, etc.  I would always get the bus to the City without a bit of trouble.

  6. The inner Western suburbs are very green and leafy and are  very nice places to live. Try Indooroopilly, Taringa, Toowong - all are close to the city (but not close enough to walk) and have the advantage of a train service to Ipswich. They are also very close to UQ at St Lucia, so there is a lot of shared student accomodation if you don't mind sharing with someone from a different campus.

Darra, Redbank Plains, Goodna and Gailes as mentioned in another answer, have the same train service, but are considerably further out of town and leave a lot to be desired in many other ways - though they would be cheaper than the closer in suburbs.

  7. New Farm

  8. If your moving to Ipswich and your wanting to rely on public transport the the only other towns close to Ipswich and Brisbane are Redbank Plains, Goodna, Gailes, Walco, or Darra. These places are all quite cold in the winter time and very very hot in the summer time.
