I absolutly LOVE nursing rooms. They are wanderful for breastfeeding mothers. In my city we have them at all of the malls and they have arm chairs in cubicles with curtains to pull across for privacy. They are always really warm for the babies. They also have microwave for ladies with bottles. And change tables and nappy disposal bins. Some of them even have TVs for mothers to watch while nursing. Some also have play rooms full of toys for older children. I live in New Zealand and I was wandering if nursing rooms like this are available to mothers over seas. (I just read an answer where someone said they nurse in changing rooms of shops so it got me wandering)

Thanks all. Also dont forget to say where you are from in the answer

  1. I've rarely seen any, and over the last 4 years I've been moved from California (born and raised there) to Puerto Rico, and now I'm in Guam.  The ones I saw were okay, nothing too special.

Not that it really bothers me....I nurse ANYWHERE!!

***And regarding indecent exposure, a breastfeeding mother in the US can NOT be arrested for that.  The act of nursing negates that, and laws state it explicitly!!  :)

  2. We have them in Australia (at least where I live), very much the same as you describe. They're usually described as "Parents Rooms" though as Dads are welcome too - and you do sometimes see a Dad in there on his own doing a nappy change. They also often have a toilet room that a pram will fit in and a child-size toilet.

They vary from a bit yucky (run down and nappy bins not changed often enough - smelly!) to really great. Most shopping malls have them, plus some of the major department stores have their own as well. I like the ones with arm chairs in an open area where you can chat to the other Mums there while you are feeding.

  3. I live in Texas (usa) and very very very few places have nursing rooms.. I've seen them in a few malls and baby stores like babies r us but that's about it...The one I've been in...in a Houston mall was tiny...had a rocking chair, a bean bag, a garbage can, a changing table, and a sink....it was hand painted with peter rabbit images...very cute, but not very nice in my opinion.

  4. they don't have nursing rooms in america

  5. Never even heard of them!  I'm in England.

  6. We don't have ANY 'nursing rooms' that I'm aware of.

I have never seen one; I've never even heard of one until now! =]

I'm in the USA .. California to be exact.

  7. yes we have the parents rooms but they are soooo scungy and disgusting that i would rather take my chances, i am in the NT Australia.

  8. wow!! wish we had those here in Canada They would be awesome to have!

  9. In the USA you can be arrested for indecent exposure. Not the greatest of states! My wife bottled her milk so I could feed her.

Not many places and or establishments have considerations for

newborns or infants. Sorry none here that I have found. Good idea though!!

  10. yeah, nothing like that hear.. macys here in Oregon has some really cool/cute couches that women can sit on, but it isn't private.. which I don't mind.. we also have like this tiny little room with a rocking chair, and changing table with a sink.. but it is really small and only one of those in the city next to me about 1.5 hours away... but i really don't care, i'll nurse in public with or without a nursing room.. if my daughter needs to eat, then she needs to eat and everyone else can just suck it up (no pun intended)

  11. I'm also from America (NY) and I don't think I've ever come across one. They sure do sound nice though. I don't think many woman breastfeed in america, not as many as there should be anyway. The ones that do just breastfeed in public (myself included).
