Question:

What are the odds I can be competitive in a Narrative competition if my novel is about angels?

I won't go into details as far as the story goes for obvious reasons, but I was wondering if you think I stand a chance if my novel involves an angel who is in touch with this girl, and both of them help each other along the way. There are elements of good, and evil, and the way humans and angels are affected by moral values, and lack of them, too. Needless to say, the book is NOT about religion.

Thank you guys.

  1. Mike,

Child of Ape has a good point. Also, it depends on how well 'angel' stories are selling these days. I agree that the writing makes for a lot of sales, but 'interesting' is right up there along side. I like the fact there there are elements of 'good and evil' because this makes for a mysterious type of plot; a what happens next type plot.

Just do your best on the writing and, edit... edit... edit yourself. Get someone you can trust to not pay you lip service and say it's wonderful when it's full of flaws. That's not helping you get your stories published.

    Good luck!

  2. If the competition is about narrative, it probably wouldn't matter if your story was about a magic talking leopard called bobo; it's the writing they're looking at, write well and it will be noticed.

  3. You have a chance: once I entered a competition on a forum, and it turned out that all the entries that got votes had written about God in some form or other...

  4. I think the your story has potential and can work provided on a couple things; how strong a writer you are, your story in general, how good it comes out (plot, characters, drama, dialog, etc...) Of course when you're finished find an agent who'll fight for your book. Good luck and if you have any more questions feel free to email me. Chris

  5. It doesn't sound very exciting to me, but who knows?
