  1. depends on the number of horses

  2. It really depends on the odds of the horses in that particular race.

  3. Well the Tricast on this year's running paid £2,268.11 and  so the odds are pretty big!

It is all down to the starting prices of the horses that finish in the first three.

The 2007 running paid a massive £12,518.50 as the first three home were 33/1, 12/1 and 33/1.

  4. If you discount form, going etc the true odds of getting a tricast in the grand national are huge.

Most years the Gran national has its full complement of 40 horses.

To get 1st place would be 1 in 40 ie 39/1

To get 2nd place would be 1 in 39 ie 38/1 (1 less as you already have the winner)

To complete the tricast you will need third place which is 1 in 38 horses remaining therefore 37/1

    Therefore the true odds, if everything is equal, would be 1/40 x 1/39 x 1/38 = 59279/1.

In total in the Grand National there are 59280 possible tricast scenarios.

However as each horse has different odds etc then i cannot give you a definitive answer to your question.
