I have had my 29gal. aquarium for almost 2 years now. I have never seen or experienced a leak personally, but my uncle did with his large aquarium 10 years ago. It happened while he was at a party. All the fish died except one.

╚ What are the odds of an aquarium leak?

╚ If one does occur, what do you do?

╚ How can I help prevent leaks?

My aquarium is on a strong stand and is level.

  1. The odds of an aquarium leak are slim. The only scenario where I've seen a seal fail is when there's something other than fish (turtles, gerbils, etc..) living in it.

If a leak does occur you must drain the water from the tank till it is safely below the leak, remove the fish, and drain the rest of the way. You then have 2 courses of action:

    1) Check to see if your tank came with a warranty, and call the manufacturer.

    2) Fix it yourself. You can go to any hardware store, or pet store and by Aquarium Sealant. Then just follow the instructions on the package TO THE LETTER, and refill.

There isn't really all that much you can do to prevent leaks. If it's gonna happen it's gonna happen. Just take care of your tank and you should be fine.
