What are the odds of getting a hole in one in golf?

i just got my first one yesterday on a par three. has anyone ever gotten one on a par four?

a par 4, probably.  getting a hole in one is extremely hard to do.  consider yourself lucky, you have achieved something most people never accomplish :)  i've been playing for 10 years and have yet to get one.  i've chipped many in the cup but never a hole in one.  congrats!

its niot gambling its about skill anyone can get a hole in one whenever. And yes happy gilmore has got a hole in one on a par 4   ; )

A par four would be really difficult to get a hole in one on. odds are pretty high to getting a hole in one even on a par 3. Thats something that you may only have happen once in a lifetime.

Congrats on the ace.  I've been playing for almost 10 years and have not got one yet.  I've come close on several occasions, but close only counts in horseshoes and grenades.  The odds are 1 in 10,000 and that's an estimate.  Higher on a par 4.  Coincidentally, I was about 18 inches from getting an ace on a par 4 earlier in the year.  Once again, close but no cigar.

Congratulations! It's rare. People have gotten aces on par 4's, especially since the advent of the big drivers. The closest I have witnessed is last week. One of my partners hit a 275 yd drive on a 275 yd. par 4. Landed pin high about 6 ft. down the slight slope got a one putt eagle. Even that was really fun to watch. I've often won closest to the pin on par 3's, but never really got close to an ace. You should be proud! peace

I have heard that the average golfer has a 1 in 10,000 balls hit on a par 3 would be a hole in one. as for on a par 4 i can do it in tiger woods pga tour 08 does that count??? lol.

First congratulation on your ace.  I don't know the exact odds, it depends a lot on your skill level and the amount of golf you play.  There have been aces on par fours, but they are much more rare than on par three holes.  I played for about 30 years before getting my first one, and now I have four each coming about two years apart.  Come to think of it I am due for another soon!!!
