  1. depends on what his three chances are... but he can get it put in his contract where he wants to go for his first duty station - never totally guaranteed though... it all depends on his job also

  2. It will largely depend on what job he takes in the Navy.  Assuming he enlists, most training schools (usually called "A" schools) will allow the top graduate to pick his next command.  This is usually the case, but not always.  Sometimes the school will promote you vice give you choice of orders.  Additionally not every base has a need for every type of job in the Navy.  For example: if your husband wanted to become an air trafic controller, his assignments  (at least his first couple of duty stations) will be at bases that have aircraft.  There is no need for his services at a submarine base.  If he decides to stay in the Navy longer than his first enlistment, then he may have opportunities to work outside of his training expertise.

Another thing to do would be to chose a job (rating) that is pretty common, such as a clerical rating or medical rating.  These jobs tend to be available at just about every base.  Where there are sailors, there will be a need for medical treatment and paperwork.

In the end always remember this: The needs of the Navy will trump all else.  Your husband will go where the Navy needs him.

  3. it all depends on who you know and who you blow     away with your abilities as a seaman

  4. Pretty good. See my brother is in the Navy and he has always gotten where he wanted to go. Plus he said that he has had a lot of fun traveling. I don't get to see him a lot, but most of the time yes he does get the base he wants.

  5. I'll just be real with you.  He's probably not going to get his top 2 choices fresh out of boot camp.  When I picked FL, VA, and San Diego. They sent me to Mississippi. What Im trying to say is thats a joke.

After completing his sea duty  which is about 3 or 4 years he will be considered up for new orders. During this time he will be able to pick his shore duty.

  6. well ...

    san diego

    Italy

    Japan

Good Luck tell your Husband thank you for wanting to join the military

  7. There are too many variables to even be able to guess.  Some jobs are only needed at certain bases due to how the Navy distributes it's ships. And the people who do the best in their training schools are often given higher preference and first choice of duty assignments.  Really though, you go where the Navy needs you.  When they can match that up with where you want to go it's better all around.

My advice is to make sure he puts down his real preferences when asked.  We had friends who were convinced they could never get Bangor, WA as a first choice so they didn't put it down.  Everyone who asked for it got it because no one else "wanted" it.  They all got the first choice they put down.  Oh, the irony.

  8. If his preference includes areas with a large Navy presence like Norfolk or San Diego, the chances are very good. If he has chosen small, obscure bases like Sugar Grove, WV, the chances are almost zero. Bigger the base, better the chances.

  9. Let me guess, Hawaii is on top of your list?

His chances are not good at all, unless he has very specific skills that the Navy might want to utilize. For example, if he holds an advanced degree in electronic/communications engineering he might be sent to a comm. tech. development center.

  10. I HAVE A NEPHEW WHO JOINED... HE PICKED THREE... HIS LAST CHOICE WAS SAN DIEGO BECUASE HES FROM SAN DIEGO..... HE WANTED TO GET AWAY... HE ENDED UP BEING STATIONED IN SAN DIEGO.... CATCH MY DRIFT??? LAST PICKS ALWAYS FIRST PICK... FIRST PICKS ALWAYS LAST PICK... NAVY AND MARINES ARE JACKASS'S LIKE THAT..... THATS WHY IM HOOOOOAH ALL THE WAY....
