My friends say four to 1. I'm a little more skeptical. FTl travel is supposedly not even possible.

  1. Actually, according to the Star Trek universe, the first FTL ship was named the Phoenix, piloted by the inventor of the warp drive, Dr. Zefram Cochrane.

There were many many FTL ships prior to the Enterprise's first voyage.

  2. The thought that there is some sort of "cosmic speed limit" is ludicrous at best.  Our perception of objects moving at the speed of light (relative to us) is obviously limited, but that doesn't mean that these objects don't exist.  They may appear to be energy to us, but we may look like energy to them as well.

  3. It will not be possible to even travel at the speed of light let alone FTL.

I would put the odds at 0.0%.

BTW your friends need to buck up.

  4. Very small.  We couldn't even get a proper shuttle named enterprise. Just a test vehicle. Even assuming it's done by an English speaking country. i doubt the Russians or Chinese or nidians will name it Enterprise

  5. NASA is looking into the feasibility of building an Anti-Matter spaceship.  What with all the flooding and "dry lightning" storms happening on this planet, I would think a name like "Noah's Ark" is apropos.  Throw me a line, will ya?  6,000 - 8,000 lightning strikes in a 24 hour period....mind boggling to say the least.  Ben Franklin would've been in his glory.

The ICAN-II spacecraft, developed at Penn State, utilizes the ACMF engine for a manned mission to Mars, which only requires 140 ng of antimatter for a 30-day transit time. Although nuclear fuel is present, the spacecraft can be assembled in Earth's orbit (for example, the ISP) to offset any environmental impacts. [1]

The Starship Enterprise...FTW.. for the win.  Thing is, will our bodies be able to take speeds greater than MACH 7?

  6. it depends on how many people will go for the joke and how many are trekkies (star trek fanatics) when it happens =)

  7. If it's built by the Chinese it might be called the  "Long March" or the "Chairman Mao".
