What are the odds of this happening in the Detroit/Dallas series tomorrow?

Wow, I am surprised at the short memory of some of the people here. It has been stated already but last season on Saturday May 19th, 2007 NBC dropped their coverage of the Senator/Sabres game in order to show the Preakness Stakes in it's entirety.

Those of you who do not remember may ask yourselves what that means. That means over an hour of a woman interviewing horses, horse trainers and horse owners. In addition, they did a special presentation on Barbaro, who is literally a dead horse. (Sorry, I had to mix that in!)

  1. well the game isnt going to be going into overtime so i aint concerned about it.

Joe I think a lot more glue can be made from the horse your beating over Chelios's age.

  2. Still saddens me that two hours of hype preceding a 60 second race is more important to the average American than the Western Conference Finals. Ah well.

    Thank God for CBC!

  3. I can see deja vous happening again.  That is a scary concept. maybe they learned from last year? Then again maybe not.

  4. They already have a plan for this...

  5. Keep in mind NBC ousted the Sabres/Senators game of a year ago to show the PREGAME of the Preakness Stakes. The actual race wasn't until six at least.

ERICA - Yup, it was PRE-GAME! Let's see, horse racing pre-game or NHL Playoffs sudden-death overtime? Should be an easy choice!

  6. To my knowledge, NBC doesn't have any other channel they can dump either event to (ABC / ESPN for instance).

They may go to a split screen (picture in picture) format playing the audio of the hockey game just until the Preakness starts. They can't miss the race but are they going to take the chance on missing the goal as well???

  7. Euthanized CHELI..... come on LUBERS, Joe has to get BA for that. Totally classic answer. ROTFLidstroMAO

Curtism- Hockey gets dumped to VERSUS per say of contract if that should happen. They made sure last years debacle  wouldnt happen again this year from what I read.

  8. That would suck as i can see them dropping the game

And after thinking about this further who's contract would have the override factor.  i'm sure that must have been determined. so its like which contract would they be willing to lose?

Joe   "euthanized Cheli"   truly a classic

  9. I'd hope the odds weren't fair, but in reality, they probably are. Don't sports like horse racing and golf pay NBC more money? As we all know, the NHL isn't exactly high up in the hierarchy of sports in the US. So sad.

What's even sadder though... Last season, the Preakness race wasn't even starting immediately or anything. That stupid Barbaro special was on. Grrr.

  10. Wow I never thought of it but I'm sure they would tell the nice folks at Pimlico that they might have to wait and have a few more martinis and cosmopolitans until the game is over.Wouldn't it be ironic if they euthanized Cheli if he breaks his leg like they did with Eight Belles? You think they need more glue in Detroit schools?

  11. Nips:  Really?  I remember reading a couple months ago the exact opposite, that NBC would NOT guarantee that a similar situation wouldnt happen again this year.  I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I wouldnt be as mad this year as I was last year though.  I was watching the game and never heard them say that it was switching to Versus.  I didnt realize what had happened until about 5 seconds after the winning goal was scored.  i was p!ssed.

  12. the last game was cheap. the reff needs some new glasses. Dallas is a good team, but the only reason they won last game was because of crappy calls. Theres fair chance during play....let's just hope there's some fair calls during this one as well!!

  13. Heidi 3

    Heidi: Jerts/Raiders

    Heidi 2: Sabres/Sens

    Heidi 3: Stars/Wings
