Is it illegal to have an open container (glass/can of beer etc) while walking?

  2. In Tasmania, you can get fined for walking along public places with open alcohol containers yes. Other areas, the laws aren't so tough; except in designated alcohol free zones. Best bet, to be sure, is to ring a local council of the area you plan to go to and ask; better to be safe than sorry.

  3. I don't know about open container laws, but there are laws in many places against drinking in public places. I think you're probably pretty safe from prosecution if you and your companions are behaving yourselves, but rowdy behaviour or an officious official could see you in trouble.
