What are the parameters (if any) for registering a domain name as a ".info"?

For example, I know that to register as a ".gov" you have to be a government agency.

I don't believe there are any such rules for info... i know .ca has specific rules as well where you have to reside in Canada ... just go to http://www.dynadot.com and register the domain you like.

.com's don't give higher rankings in search engines.  But they are the most remembered extension for users.  so if you had example.info, a lot of users would end up typing example.com just out of habit.  But... to answer your question, anyone is allowed to register .infos, and also .com, .net, .org, .us, etc..
