I hope that you referring to the mid-latitude low pressure system. An active cyclone will contain a center of low pressure, frontal boundaries, and air masses. Typically, the primary frontal boundaries are cold fronts and warm fronts. As for air masses, they are generally continental polar (cP) and maritime tropical (mT).
