Question:

What are the perfect amp settings for Snow by RHCP?

I've been learning this song and I just cant seem to find that perfect tone. I have a line 6 amp and the settings include: drive, bass, mid, treble, and channel volume. The amp has some channels that include clean, crunch, metal, and insane. I'm guessing I should use either crunch or clean but I'm not sure. The amp also has some effects: chorus flange, phaser, tremolo, sweep echo, tape echo, and reverb. Should I use any of these? So basically I'd like to know which settings, channels, and effects (if any) I should use. By the way, I'm using a Fender American Standard Stratocaster, so if anyone has some tips involving tone settings on the guitar itself, I'd appreciate that too.

  1. Every guitar sounds different with every amp, and every song might need it's own settings, so your best bet is to learn how each parameter sounds on it's own first.  Then you'll know if you want a phaser or a flange or just a little drive for a song.

To experiment yourself, start out with a clean setting, turn off the effects (you have to wiggle the k**b and then turn it all the way down), all the EQs at the middle, and then try one effect (start with drive).  Then turn the drive off, and try using flange, phaser, etc.

Line6 has a ton of information about tones on their website... you could probably even download a recording with a tone you like (where you know they're using a Line6 amp) and try to match it.

BTW with most of the Line6 amps when you find something you like, you can just hold down one of the buttons (clean crunch metal insane) and it'll store your setting there.
