  1. Well I had a pet mouse and her name was Kay, there so cute and sweet, but they do stink so you have to clean the cage a lot. And hamsters and mice don't live very long, only a few years. My mouse died about a year ago because she got a tumor. Which my mom told me is very common in mice, because she works at an animal hospital. Good luck :)

  2. Well we always had hampsters when we were young. When I was older one of my good friends had white mice. I love the white mice. They are sweet and friendly I have never had one bite me. If you promise your parents you'll clean the cage regularly, at least 1 or 2 times a week. Then I see no reason they wont let you. They are sanitary and clean. They just have to p**p so you have to clean it. I don't know anything bad about mice or hampsters.

I hope you get a pet ----Megan

  3. the only downside is that they can make quite a bit of noise at night and you will have to clean out their cage once a week.

apart from that they are very cute and if handled a lot will be friendly, i suggest getting a fat one cos they are cuter, they will sleep on you and just sit in your hand

  4. i agree rats are great they are really clean and friendly only downside is they need a big cage

hamsters and mice don't stink you just have to clean them out they are actually not as bad as they do teeny weeny poos

  5. 1. They are small. 2. They are cute. 3. It is funny to watch them spin in a hamster ball. 4. It tickles when they squirm in your hand.

  6. Hamsters don't smell... people who say they smell are probably irresponsible owners who were too lazy to clean the cages properly.

If you take care of them the correct way, they smell no worse than owning any other pet... besides, even when they do begin to smell "bad" (like if you took a vacation or whatever), it smells more like woodchips than anything else. So dont let that worry you. Only Ferrets smell real bad.

They also dont bite if handled properly and tamed correctly, again only irresponsible owners would say that.

They're cute, cuddly, funny and personable... plus its a good pet for smaller spaces (like an apartment). And relatively easy to take care of... so long as you remember food, water and cleaning the cage.

The only 2 "bad" things I can think of are:

1)They're nocturnal... so its possible they could keep you up at night.

    2) They usually only live 2 years or so :(

    Good luck to you!

And remember... buy a three story wire cage and plenty of hamster toys. Not those crappy plastic habitrails.

  7. Mice DO NOT stink if they are cared for properly. I use total comfort bedding and pine bedding and mix the two together for their bedding. They do not stink if you change their cage bedding regularly. I change mine every two to three weeks. No one can tell that I have mice if they didn't see the tank there. If you use just the soft bedding (total comfort) then yes they do stink. We've had mice for several months now (3 of them) and no one ever can smell them trust me I ask and my friends are the ones who are bluntly honest. You could even use the pine bedding only and you don't have to change it as often, but its bad for them to only use that. I alternate mine. There's this cleaner that we use it smells like rubbing alcohol its called Fresh Results. We use that during every cage cleaning. It gets all of the bad germs out and your tank after its finished being cleaned you don't smell it. I honestly can't come up with any cons of having mice. I prefer them over any pet. They are great first pets for kids. I have 3 children, a 18m/o and a 4 and  yr old and if they can help to care for mice, anyone can take care of mice. Its cheaper to have mice over cats and dogs in the long run. Once you have your cage or tank (we have a 40gallon fish tank that ours are in)(They can't get out either if they are in a glass tank, they could, its just harder to because the glass is so slippery, they'd have to have something to jump on it order to get out.) Get the food bowls, water bottles, bedding and food, and don't forget the spinning wheel because they HAVE to have exercise. Once you have the neccessities, the rest is inexpensive. Email me and let me know how it goes.

  8. The best thing is that they are really really adorable and fun...at the pet store. I had a hamster and we got it a cute cage and everything it would need but if we didn't change the cage every 2 days it would start to smell really really bad. Pets are awesome and so much fun.....just ask yourself (like my mom tells me (: ) will you still love and take care of it when it gets older and their cage is gross? If yes then you should get one!

  9. Hamster, maybe. Mouse, "NO". Hamsters are cute pets. They have a tendency to nip your fingers though. And, unless you keep the bedding in the cage clean, it will smell. But, think about a rat. I am serious about this. Rats make great pets. Look for a baby one. They are usually black and white, or all white. They are easily trained, like to ride around in your pocket, and will eat out of your hands. They also require a nice, clean cage. So, that is one thing you have to be really careful about, cleanliness! Good luck with your dad.

  10. THEY STINK

  11. Positives are that they're cute. Negatives are that they smell, if you have any cats they'll try to play with them, and they're annoying -- they'll often do their exercise when you're trying to sleep so you shouldn't keep them in your room.

    Hope this helps

  12. my friend had to get rid of hers cause it STUNK!!! get a cat or a dog or a bird

  13. they are cute and lovely but they smell bad.
