There are several personal traits required to hold the position, (have a friendly and professional attitude, good communications skills, good memory or the ability to remember your checklist and safety procedures). Beyond that I would say the most important attribute is the ability to remain calm and take charge of a situation during emergencies or unforseen events that may develop during the course of the flight.
