  1. 1. Safety-Are all the toys safe with no broken pieces? Is there sufficient padding under any climbing equipment, indoors and out? Are all art materials non-toxic? Are outlets plugged?

    2. Cleanliness- Do all adults and children wash their hands frequently, particularly on arrival, before and after eating, after bathroom use, after coming in from outside and before and after playing in sand or water? Are eating surfaces cleaned and disinfected before and after use? Is the bathroom clean and equipped with warm running water , liquid soap and disposable paper towels? Is it cleaned and sanitized regularly? Are cots and mats cleaned on a regular schedule and sanitized between uses by different children?

    3. Nutrition- Are meals and snacks nutritious, are there seconds available for those who want them and are children taught proper nutrition? If the children bring their own lunch there still needs to be food available if lunch is inadequate or gets left in the car.

    4. Is there time every day for kids to exercise and just run around? If the weather is too bad to go outside are there activities such as moving to music or playing exercise games?

    5. Are all physicals and immunizations up to date? Are allergies posted? Does every adult who works in the classroom know to look for those allergies?

    6. Is a daily Health Check done as each child comes in the door to look for signs of illness and abuse.?

    7. Does the daily routine allow for a mix of quiet and active activities? Are there materials that encourage large and small motor development?

There are other needs, but these are just the basics.

  2. Ok - what do kids need?  Think it through, and then do your own homework.  Or better yet, read your text book.

As far as the care needs go, you've got your 4 basic categories- safety, health, development, & hygiene.

Safety:  Toys need to be clean, not broken and age appropriate, objects and obstacles removed from play areas, indoor and outdoor environments free of unsafe objects and materials, and supervision.

Health:  Care for sick children, medication procedures, monitoring of illness, and toileting procedures and routines.

Development: Supervision and interaction, extend children's self-help skills, encouraging independence and providing assistance, develop and extend physical milestones.

Hygiene:  Toileting, handwashing, food handling, clean toys and clothes, correct nappy change policy, etc.

    Good luck with your asignment!

  4. which course r u doing as im on NVQ 3 Childrens Care Learning and Development and have just finished my first year. Physical care needs would be a stimulating environment that meets all needs and promotes development, healthy eating, clean and safe facilities safe equipment, age appropriate and stimulating resources, all that sort of thing...

  5. Well, they need to nap, eat, go to the bathroom, exercise, etc, so they need facilities for all those activities.

  6. All I know is that my daughter was assessed on her ability to move freely - jumping, running, dancing, walking etc.  and she was also assessed on her fine motor skills - like picking things up and feeding beads onto a string and stuff like that.

    She's 4 years old.
