  1. You need to max out the APFT to be competitive. Let me tell you Ranger School is d**n TOUGH! I'd say the psychological aspect of strength is more important. Lot's of sleep deprivation.

"technically" they say you only have to score something like 60's on the pft but that is untrue, you're best bet for them to even consider you or get through RIP then RANGER school is to max out the pft and then some, like 80-90 push ups, 80-90 sit ups, and 2 miles in under 12min (I'm guessing from memory) like the guy above me said mental toughness plays a huge part, they say that everyone that goes through RANGER school hallucinates from time to time from sleep deprivation while over training, no sleep for days is tough enough but they also run you to the ground, try not sleeping for three days while constantly keeping active then on the 3rd day go for a 12 mile timed hike with 80lbs on your back, in RANGER school you actually end up sleeping during your hikes while walking, I S**t you not. alot of soldiers spend half their careers washing out of ranger school.
