What are the points for and why do u lose them when you ask a question?

I'm not sure what the points are for, but for a lot of people it makes it a game. I really couldn't care less, I just like to blow time when  I should be doing something more...productive.

You lose 5 points when asking a question to make your want to answer more questions to earn the points back.

I guess they wanted to draw people in by making this one big game, and it's working!
