Under your name from yahoo anwsers it says how many points you have. What are they for?

  1. Its a sort of a rating system and an accounting system in one. When you start out in Answers, you get 100 points. If you ask a question 5 points are deducted. If you answer a question 2 points are added. Its all explained in the following link:

    The idea is that you give back to the community by helping to answer other people's questions. When you get a certain number of points you advance a level where you get more capabilities.

    You can think of the levels as badges that show how involved you are in the Y! Answers community.
