I'm thinking especially ones provided by big-name holidays operators.

  1. Any holiday that promotes conspicuous consumption (ie. Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day) are all bad.  Not only are we buying things that will probably just be thrown away, we feel the need to wrap each gift with wrapping paper.

Instead of buying a gift, do something for that person instead.  Or give something with a use instead of just a random piece of c**p that they will never use.  Use a reusable shopping bag as a wrapper instead of gift wrap.

Holidays are not about the holiday anymore anyway.  They are about selling stuff.  If everyone stopped buying holiday gifts for a single year, just about every single retailer would go bankrupt.  Greeting card holidays have simply created more ways for retailers to extort money from consumers.  Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's Day, Halloween, these are all ways to get you to spend money and not what the holiday is supposed to be about.

  2. Not trying to be sarcastic what are environmentally unfriendly holidays? Would like to answer but don't know.
