What are the positives and negatives of pop culture??

I have to do an assignment for english (an essay) on the positives and negatives of pop culture. Any ideas?

Positives...it gives people common ground, is excellent for businesses involved in current trends, creates future nostalgia.

Negatives...conveys a "norm" or standard that is unreal, gives labels to people who don't conform to it, leaves no room for other possibilities. (because that's just the way it is)

No positives,as it promotes a sheeple mentality.The negatives are legion.
