  1. Risks include: low birth weight and brain damage.  Addiction for the baby is another risk.  Birth defects can occur with any drug (legal or not).  Many possible effects are not yet known because there is not enough data yet.

  2. for pregnant women marijuana use is very risky and potentially can result in reduced blood flow and oxygen to the uterus and placenta a poor fetal growth.  low birth weight and higher risk of premature delivery often are seen in infants whose mothers used marijuana during pregnancy.  repeated consumption of four or more alcoholic drink in one sitting can cause harm to the fetus, especially in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy (when critical early developments take place in utero).  using drigs or alcohol can cause faulty movement  of the cells in the brain during early stages of nerve cell development or block the actions of certain brain neurotransmitters.
