  1. (Tube) cathode ray tube (CRT) TVs can provide a great picture, they can't support the screen size that people look for today. Projection TVs can provide a much bigger picture than CRT sets can.

Color CRT televisions use three electron beams and separate phosphors for red, green and blue.

A front-projection system uses a projector and a separate screen, and it projects images onto the front of that screen.

    Size or Quality pretty much.

  2. Lots of differences, but let me add..

A tube/CRT is heavy. My first HDTV was a 35" CRT and weighed nearly 200 lbs.  My 61" rear projector - 110 lbs.

Tubes cannot go much beyond about 40" screen size or it implodes because of the weight of all that glass.  A projection unit can give you 30,40...70 inches just by making the cabinent and screen bigger.
