  1. Obama is still ahead in almost every major poll. The latest poll from CBS has him at +8%.

  2. gallup has obama up by a little 5 points.kerry had a 15 point lead at this point.

  3. Obama is heading them but not by much

do a google search on election poll

  4. National polls mean nothing. The huge following that Obama has in California, New York and Illinois are going to give him a big boost in the national percentages.  All that matters is the six states that voted for GW Bush both times by a somewhat marginal amount. McCain has to win every one of these states. Until you see a poll that has Obama leading in one of the six states, you don't know anything.

    -------------------------

    Ohio

    Nevada

    Colorado

    Florida

    Missouri

    Virginia

    --------------------------------

This is based on the reasonable assumption that Wisconsin, Iowa, and New Mexico who voted for either John Kerry or Al Gore at least one time can be persuaded to vote for Obama.

  16. The thing I read said they were even, but polls are a joke, USA Today had a headline, most Americans think Palin isn't qualified to do the job, yet the article said 39% said she was, 30% said she wasn't, and the rest were undecided, so how does that match the headline?

Polls are a joke, they were completely wrong during the primaries, they'll be completely wrong now through November.

  17. McCain was leading up until last Wednesday. Obama has resumed the lead an polls.  Expect this type of back and forth for the rest of the campaign, it been like this all summer.

  18. The following are links that have all the polls conducted so far. You should bookmark them. They tell you the dates the polls were conducted, the margin of error, the sample used (how many people sample, registered or likely voters), etc.

Their names are Real Clear Politics and Pollster.com.

As you can see, the two most recent polls are a CBS and a CNN poll conducted from August 29 to August 31, where Obama leads by 8% (CBS) and 2% (CNN), with CNN including Barr and Nader.
