  1. Costa Rica is a good place to live depending the location! For example, San Jose is the capital city so expenses in real state will be not very expensive for a local citizen! Here, electricity is manage just by few national companies but the price is the same for all the country, in San Jose is the "Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz", and the minimum price for a residential zone is approximately ¢5.000, that are almost $10 per month; residential phone is almost ¢3.000 that are approx. $6 per month. Water service is potable in the 90% of the country an the amount to pay is aprox ¢4.000 ($8) monthly, but I recommend you that if u come, mix bottled water with the local water in the first 2 months, that way your body get adapted. Internet is operated by RACSA, another gouvernmental company, the advantage is that it is very cheap, you can ask for prices on www.grupoice.com. And in grocery, my family spend almost $250 per month but we are very comsumist (is it well spelled?), and we buy the necessary... and a lot more! lol Taxes: by law, is 13% but is included in the price of the object or service; Residential Tax, it depends on the place you live, for example I live in San Pedro an we pay almost the ¢35.000 ($70) semestral. In clothes and stuff like that here are a lot of places to choose, if you want expensive go to Escazu, or cheaper in San Jose Downtown... Fast Food Rests and American Rests: McD's, Wendy's, BK, KFC, Subway, Quiznos, Campero, Fridays, Tony Roman's, and more... As you get you get noticed, I'm Costa Rican, so have a nice trip and ENJOY COSTA RICA please!!! OH! And remember, Services prices are the minimun, but depending how u used them, price could increase a lot!
