  1. I don't know much about surfboards... but I know about boat building....

Just to clarify, I imagine both types use fiberglass. Fiberglass is a cloth or mat that is used with a hardening resin. The difference would be Epoxy resin VS polyester resin. Polyester resin is the standard, so many people just call it fiberglass (as I assume you are doing as well), although it contains no glass fibers.

Epoxy is rather pricey. Its also more flexible (I'm not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing, if your core is stiff enough it might not matter). But it should take an impact a lot better than a polyester resin board. If you need to make any repairs, epoxy is much easier to use, however not common in your local hardware store. You might have to order it, or find a boat building supplier.

Polyester resin is pretty strong but cracks more easily. Polyester boards, if I were to guess, would be cheaper.  Most boats and auto repairs are done with polyester resin.

These are just guesses, hope it helps a little.
