What are the procedures in troubleshooting a 4- bulb flourescent lamp? it just woudnt light.?

  1. Are there any other symptoms? Flashing... buzzing... humming.... a sulfur smell.... black discharge from the ballast?

    If the answer is non of the above.... have you checked that all the connections are tight? You might need to retape them to make sure they are snug.

    if you hear a buzzing or humming, or any discharge or smell.... its the ballast that is going bad/went bad.

    To go back to keep it simple:  Are you sure the bulbs aren't bad? Are you sure the switch isnt bad?

  3. After the unit has been powered on for about 30 minutes(yes I know it does not light) find the ballasts, the black boxes. Put your hand on them, please be careful, and see if they are warm. if they are not warm, then they are not working. On average you will get 20 years from the old ballasts, sometimes alot less on the newer electronic ballast. I have had to replace some of the newer in less than 5 years.
