  1. use acrylic primer/undercoat

    sand with 100 grade sandpaper

    undercoat with acrylic primer/undercoat

    sand with 100 grade sanpaper

coat with an oil based gloss

final sand with a sponge sanding block

    final coat of gloss.

as with any job always use good tools. try a purdy moarch elite 2 inch brush for the first 2 coats, washing the brush withcold water between coats. use the same brush for glossing, inbetween coats of gloss clean brush with turpentine then cold soapy water.

    hope this helps.

  2. If it's metal, clean with TSP. If you use the powder in water, you'll need to rinse with water and let dry before painting. There's liquid TSP that you only need to wipe with a dry cloth. Use a good oil based paint and put on a good 3 coats. No need of priming.

If it's wood, use Dunrobin's method, but sad very lightly (200 grain or less). It's just to give a bit of grip for the next coat

  3. Strip old paint

    Fill any cracks

    Sand

    Prime

    Sand

    Undercoat

    Sand

    Undercaot

    Sand

    1st coat

    Sand

    Top coat

You will be ok against any wet weather for 5 years

  4. Clean

    Sand

    Prime

Paint in gloss x 2 coats

  5. With a gloss finish, prep work is the key.  Any blemishes will show big time.  I have always found that you should make a finsihed product, and then look at it from different angles and light, it could mean a little more prep work.  good luck.

  6. Don't forget to paint the top and bottom of the door, its amazing how many people leave it and wonder why the door swells in the damp, dunrobin has the painting spot on
