I'm only 18 years old but I think a lot about my future and one day, I want to adopt a baby or a young child but my mother says no. I would like to have children by natural birth but adopting a child to me would be wonderful. She told me to never adopt a child, I forgot why but what do you think are the cons and pros of adopting children?

  1. Lots of people would say there are no cons I myself don't 100% agree, I think it causes uncertainty in the childs mind growing up, none relating to you but the constantly crave info about there "real parents" why they didn't want them, who are they, what do they look like! It could be that you don't tell the child which means one day when they do find out.... they always do, they have all these emotions all in one sitting which can either make them or break them, they will look at you and think they are parents they have loved me and cared for me all my life and thats it as far as im concerned, or they can look at you like your a stranger, you kept their identity from them....

I also see lots of pro's, you are giving life to a child that wouldn't have had any sort of life, if you deal with my big "con" well then it could very well go in your favour, you get all the other benefits of bringing up your own child without the uncomfort and stretch marks that come with pregnancy although a con is that you do not get to feel that closeness of your baby moving in your belly.... thats a big thing for me!

You need to write a list of pro's and con's as you see it, everyone has different opinions but people who adopt really are very special people xx

  2. I honestly don't see ANY cons on adopting.

I think adoption is a wonderful thing for everyone involved! =]

  3. You may want to get into a deeper conversation someday w/ your mother regarding her strong feelings about not adopting. I suspect she knew someone who did-and it didn't turn out well. In any case, Pro-you help rescue a human being and give them a chance at a healthy life. They give u a new outlook/perspective on life. Con-sometimes there are some really serious mental, medical, or emotional issues that you are not told about and that can have a real effect on your marriage, life and/or finances. But-I say-way to go!!

  4. It always depends on the people involved.

Adoption is not a good thing for everyone. Adoption happens because a child cannot be with their mother. It's definitely not a wonderful thing for everyone.

Adoption should be about the child. Not the parents.
