What are the pros and cons of both Math U See and Teaching Textbooks? I am looking to purchase Algebra 2.?

I have watched the demo dvd's for each course. They look fairly similar with the exception of cost. I would appreciate any thoughts on which is better and why you believe it to be so.

I can only address the Math u See question. We tried to start midstream when my boys were in 3,5 grades. It was very difficult to change over from traditional book math. I personally think the program has a lot to offer if you start young.

Have you looked at ALEKs math? They offer a one month free trial for homeschool families.

You need to think about your (or your child's) learning style before making a decision.  Are you a hands-on learner, or an audio-visual learner?  MUS would be good for the former, and TT for the latter.

FWIW, we're using TT's Algebra I and it's fantastic.  I've seen MUS at HS conventions, and from their demo DVD.  MUS just would not work for my son.  They also aren't heavy with review, and not so great with word problems.  TT has daily review built into the problem sets, and always has at least one word problem for each lesson.

We use Math U See and my daughter loves it! She understands so much better now. It was definitely the program for her!She was about a year behind when we finished school last year (07) this year she has caught up to a third grade level and we are moving on the delta next year.

My sister uses teaching textbooks for a few of her kids and loves it for them. But her kids learn differently than mine and it's what works for them. I haven't done much looking into them because we found math u see first and fell in love.

When your child gets excited and tells you "Mom I get that!" from just watching the demo you tend to like lean toward it!

I ordered Teaching Textbooks for my son, and it arrived today, and honestly it is wonderful. I am amazed on how good it is. It explains it so well, it's like having a real live teacher. The demo on the website doesn't do it justice... it's so much better. I promise you it's amazing. I can't wait to start working on it with my son. It's explanation is so thoroughly that my son will be able to do it on his own, if I so desired.
