working on a presentation for class and i was trying to get some opinions of the pros and cons of building a wastewater treatment plant.

  1. Pros:

    1. It may be necessary to build one to comply with federal, state, and local "clean water" laws

    2. It will make the people down-stream from your waste happy if they see clean water, instead of untreated water.

    3. It is generally more environmentally friendly to build water treatment plants.

    Cons:

    1. It costs more capital money to build a waste water plant, then to just dump it in a lake or river.

    2. It cost more capital money to build... than to use large cesspools, large septic tanks, large aeration ponds, etc ("natural" cleaning methods).

    3. It cost money (on a continuing basis) to *operate* a waste water treatment plant.
