My grandfather burns our familys trash, like cardbord, old mail, newspaper, leaves, and other trash he burns it and sometimes puts old oil in it from his truck into the trash to make it burn more, I would like to know if this is good for the environment, or what bad effects it has on it.

  1. IT DOES'NT HURT ANYTHING, INFACT ALL NON-SOLIDS DECIPATE IN THE FRIDGID THINNED AIR ABOVE OUR HEADS OUTSIDE, YOU CAN WATCH IT DECIPATE.== NO HARM.

  2. Burning oil produces NOX emissions same as a diesel truck. Burning paper is not only a waste but pollutes the air we breath. If you can smell it when something is burning it is polluting the air you breath. That is never a good thing for anyone and can damage the lungs leading to cardiac and circulatory problems even for children. In the small amounts that he burns it is probably more of a health problem to people in the area than to the environment.

  3. Pros - It damages the environment

Cons.. i cant think of any..

DEATH TO THE ENVIRONMENT! Vote for the DOOM Party 08!!

  4. There are no environmental pros for burning paper (and adding oil obviously makes it worse!). Burning paper won't drastically harm the environment other than decreasing oxygen and adding carbon dioxide to the environment but recycling it would help the environment.

Leaves are best left to decompose on a compost heap.

  5. thats terrible 4 the environment! he should recycle it

  6. I would recycle the cardboard and newspaper. There are places that take recycled stuff, not just garbage men.  Leaves make really good compost to help plants grow. You shouldn't burn the oil. It is recyclable too. Burning it can also release toxins in the air, causing acid rain and global warming.

  7. ONLY CONS...paper should be recycled!
