it seems that aside the fact that some jobs require you to be a citizen, there isnt much difference between a permanent resident and an australian.

do australian enjoy more benefits over perm residents?

tell me your experience.

  1. I came to australia with my parents in 1959 I still havent become an australian citizen (an oversight on my part perhaps) but in answering you question? there isnt a lot of difference, I dont live in Aus now, but when I did, most things, if not all, were available to me as a permanent resident, after all I paid taxes for 30 years. The only thing that is perhaps, annoying is the fact that when I travel back to aus to visit family and friends I have to make sure that my re - entry visa is current . I travel on a british passport

  2. There are no real benefits apart from being able to vote, but it's a statement of commitment. If you live here and love Australia, you should be breaking your neck to become an Australian - simply because you can.
