  1. Pro:  Mac OS X is a good stable operating system, and although not immune to viruses it's not targeted as heavily as Windows.  Microsoft has a Mac version of Office, you can also use Open Office which can save and open files in Microsoft format, and it's free

Since it's using an Intel processor, you can also use Microsoft Office (the Windows version) if you install an application called 'Wine'  http://www.winehq.org which will allow you to also run other applications made for Windows, although results may vary with some Windows Applications.

Cons:  You're still limited on available commercial software, even with the use of Wine.  Macs tend to be more expensive than other computers.
