Question:

What are the pros and cons of going on a Disney cruise???

My husband and I have really wanted to go on a cruise for a few years. We wouldn't be able to go until Feb of '09 and by that time our daughter will be 2& 1/2. I've been seriously considering a Disney cruise because none of the other cruise lines have programs or baby sitting for children under the age of 3. We want to spend time with her, but we also want to have the option of getting some alone time. We have to travel during the school's winter break, so it will be expensive to go on a cruise no matter which cruise line we choose.

Has anyone been on a Disney cruise lately? Any advice or suggestions?

Do they have cruise schedules out for the next 12-15 months in advance?

  1. Pro- It is a cruise

    Con- It is Disney

  2. I think the pros would be its a good cruise line and has great activities for kids, good food and an adults only area on ship and on the island.  But I don't know if you would want to leave your 2&1/2 year old with strangers on a ship or a private island.

The cons, and maybe that last statement is one also, would be that Disney has only two ships and thus your options would be limited and the price I have heard is higher than most other lines.  Then you have to love being around the many kids that will be all over the ship.

Yes, they generally have cruises for the next year listed on their web site.

  3. 12 months for sure.

    No casino.

  4. Go to their website for cruise schedules. I LOVE the disney cruise line. I'm 15 and I went with my mom, dad, sister (12), grandma, aunt, and uncle, and they had something for all of us to do, we all loved it. They have great kid activities, so you kids will never be bored, and they have adult only sections of the ships, and great adult activities too. They may be more expensive than other cruiselines, but that is because their staterooms are much bigger, and their service is excellent. And they have fun family activities too, like the Pirates on the Caribbean party, and the party on the first night when you leave port canavral. I would recommend getting a balcony stateroom if you can. We had one, and we spend almost an entire day at sea outside soaking up the sun and reading. Every night you get a towel creature (a folded towel that looks like an animal) and a copy of The Navigator, the ships newsletter. It tells you about the activities for the coming day, and about the ports of call. Your waiter stays with you throughout the entire cruise, even with the rotating dining, and knows you by name, and has your favorite drink waiting for you by the second day of the cruise. Instead of sitting in one huge dining room the whole time you rotate through three amazing themed restaurants. Not to mention the ships horn sounds like "when you wish upon a star".

  5. Great for families. It's not cheap. The private island called Castaway Cay is fantastic. The ship docks directly on the island, so there is no tendering involved. It also has a separate adults section on the island which is very peaceful and on a beautiful stretch of beach. There are no casinos onboard since this is being operated by Disney. My wife and I went on a Disney cruise without our kids and we had a great time.

  6. you can check the disney travel website. They usually have info up for the next year. Disney is the most expensive cruise just because it's disney but thats the only factor. The rooms are sometimes small and with 3 people in a room it might be crowded.

  7. Oh they are awesome!  I haven't been on one lately or with small children so I can't comment on that. This is the site I use for alot of my travel. Actually I have a membership with them and there is alot of other trips also that are very family oriented. I hope you find a good vacation!

  8. I am sorry that I haven't been on a Disney Cruise but I have been on a HAL cruise and don't recommend that for you.

Some other lines to consider are Carnival and Royal Caribbean and also NCL

    Hope this helps a little!
