  1. pros:  your in the best shape of your life, hottties in swim suits, best shape of your life, better outlook on things, best shape of your life, boost in self confidence, and oh, theres one more: BEST SHAPE OF YOUR LIFE! more energy (generally)

cons: it takes time, (not really all that much money, if its with a school there are scholarship programs) tired after practices.

  2. Pros:

    1. Physical fitness. If you're looking to lose weight with little body impact then swimming is the sport for you. Your heartrate skyrockets when you swim (when you stop to take a break you can actually feel that your body is hotter than the water because of your heart creating so much friction heat) and your breathing gets very hard. Not only do you build cardiovascular endurance but you build endurance overall as well as long as muscle mass.

    2. It's something that could save your life. Let's say that you're on a boat with a few other people and suddenly the boat starts to sink. The other people on the boat can't swim so they can't save your life for you. In that case if you don't know how to swim you're not going to live to tell about it (or at least the chances are extremely slim).

    3. It's a whole bunch of new experiences. You'll meet a whole bunch of new people, even some that you'll know for your whole life. You'll also be involved in some big swims even at the smaller scale (for example I was the anchor of a relay and our team and the one next to us were tied exactly going into my leg and I beat the kid out).

    Cons:

    1. Time committment. In some cases teams will do what're called "doubles" and they're absolutely EVIL; you'll go in in the morning and probably do some dryland exercises like running or weight lifting and then in the afternoon you'll go back and you'll do your in-pool workout. The kids that stick with these doubles teams are some of the best swimmers out there but many kids have to drop out of swimming because of the ridiculous time committment.

    2. Expense of swimming. Your average suit can easily run you close to $100 and goggles, towels, shampoo and other miscelleneous expenses can easily run you around $200 combined or even more if you swim for an independent team (NOT including membership costs).

    3. Other things going on in your life. I don't swim right now (even though I'll probably be a captain come the winter boy's season) but I have things going on like college applications, an insane school schedule, work, my Eagle Scout, a girlfriend, my volatile family and some personal problems to deal with so there's not much time in there for swimming (I don't want to quit since there's like 14 kids on the team this year!). It's kind of tough balancing things out but it's better than just doing nothing.

  3. no life+really dedicated=good swimmer

    Good body

your coach will be a d***head

always muscle pain on your whole body

lot of money to go to races

  4. pros: if ur like me,  you will get an awesome body phisique, six pack, toned muscles.  make good friendships.  eventually build great passion with the sport.  needs enormous dedication to do it(if ur competing at a national level) it is a great feeling after a great swim or workout. see girls showing some extra skin(if theyre hot)

cons:  loss of sleep every day.  5 in the morning practices, double practices, no social life, no partying on friday nights because of early saturday practice.  if your not improving it greatly affects your confidence, chlorine smell,

  5. Just my opinion, but joining a swim team takes enormous passion , dedication and time commitment.

Only If you possess these ingredients and are willing to make the sacrifices, should you consider it.

    Remember:

For everything you gain, you give something up.

Only you can determine what the price will be.

  6. Are you speaking of competiting at high level?

    Well..

Pros: Good body tone, very good physical shape, lots of friends =]

Cons: No life, sore a lot, eat A LOT, meaning more money xD
