I have wanted a dog for 4 years. I have read many books about dogs and did researches. I am not sure of it now though. I live in an apartment and a housekeeper comes to my house twice a week and I go to university. I know I can't leave the dog alone when I am at school. I can train, walk and take care of it but leaving it at home?

I am not sure.

  1. Pros: unconditional love and joy they brings to life

Cons: huge commitment and responsibility, not doggy friendly environment/people

  2. it is a big responsibility owning a dog and they really shouldn't be left on their own for than 3 hours.  its always best that someone is home with them.

dogs need alot of exercise too and mental stimulation too

when in doubt, its best to wait.

  3. Pros: Unconditional love, joy and companionship

Cons: She will die long before me

Part of life: cost of food, vet bills, dog sitting, toys, training, anguish when she is sick, having to always consider her needs (example, no impromptu sleep-overs anywhere). These are not 'cons', this is just life.

Get a dog when you know you're ready and your life is stable, and when you can get someone to walk your dog midday. It's a 10-20 year commitment.

I waited until after college and when I was settled in a house and job.

I cannot imagine my life without her.

  4. You can't leave it at home all day.

  5. i waited for dog for about 10 years. and i got one two years after finishing school, after i got a job.

  6. I'd wait until you've finished school or have a more permanent place. Dogs can be noisy if left alone. They bark out of boredom.  You don't want to have to re home a dog because neighbors are complaining. If you want to be near dogs, your neighborhood  shelter would love to have you volunteer. They always need walkers and people to help clean out kennels. That part isn't glamorous, but you would be making a difference in the dogs life. They don't want to be there, and any attention they get, they thrive on it! Good luck.

Remember, don't buy a breed because they are cute, it should suit what you are looking for.
