What are the pros and cons of renting a house from a landlord vs. an apt community

we have been renting an apt in a multi unit apt community. but ive been interested in a house because we'd have our own laundry, yard and garage, we live in Michigan, so covered parking is a plus, rental costs would be the same. just wondering if theres more hassle, like who mows lawn and are landlords harder to deal with.

  1. more hassle about owning?

    much less hassle.

    just property taxes and anything

    that the landlord WOULD repair

is now your job to repair in your own house.

  2. Landlords are as different as people, and yes you would be responsible for lawn maintenance, however there is a lot to be said for living in a house and having your own yard to cookout in and party with your friends, or to have your own flowers, and out door space.

  3. ALOT more privacy in a house. Apartments suck.

  4. It varies with the landlord.  I have a rental house in LA, and I pay for the gardener.  You settle this at the time you sign the rental agreement or lease.
