I am new to this program and I would like some details on how the program works and how it compares to other classical education grammer programs. I am also considering The Ordinary Parents Guide to Reading, First Language Lessons, and Sing, Spell, Read and Write, for grade one and two.

  1. Those programs are all very different in the way they approach language arts.

Shurley Grammar is a comprehensive grammar program that teaches using workbooks and jingles.

The Ordinary Parents Guide to Reading teaches phonics, not grammar.

First Language Lessons is gentle introduction to grammar and language arts.  The lessons are simple and are done orally.  It does not involve use of workbooks.

I believe Sing, Spell, Read and Write is a phonics instruction program.

I would advise you to look at this as two seperate things 1.  How do you want to teach phonics? 2.  How do you want to teach grammar/language arts?

Start by thinking about your child's learning style.  That will help you find a program that will meet his or her needs.  Here is some info that will help you assess learning styles:

    Hope this helps!
