To answer my question, please make a case FOR or AGAINST finding out the babies s*x.

This is my second baby, by the way. I found out with the first one.

  1. You can prepare for them. Buy more appropriate clothes, pick out a name and plus it gives you that boost in the middle of the pregnancy and still have a while to go, you get that excitement of finding out and telling your family and friends and imagine them and what they will be like.

But I'm not against people who don't find out. Its down to personal choice. Do what you want to do.

  2. Pros

practicalities of knowing which colour to buy

getting used to knowing your baby as him or her instead of 'it'

    deciding on a name finally

    Cons

No surprise on delivery unless the ultrasound was wrong

This is my fourth pregnancy and the only one Ive known what s*x my baby is and Im glad I do know now.

  3. i wanted to find out before i had my baby, because it made buying everything a little easier. if you don't know what you're having, buying clothes and things can be a little frustrating because everything is either yellow or green, and there isn't much to choose from if you don't know what you are having. i blame this mostly on the retail stores. it just made the planning and buying process a lot easier.

  4. of course you can by the baby stuff.

and names..you can start calling the baby by his or her name..

i wonder alot so no more wondering yourself crazy....

  5. I was really hesitant about finding out the s*x, because I would hate for their to be a mistake.  You really don't want that kind of surprise, and be shocked at the birth, rather than thrilled that it's a baby!

My husband, family, and friends really wanted to find out!  It does make gift giving so much easier for them.  There are so few truly unisex things out there.  There are definitely masculine yellows, and a feminine yellows..  Masculine greens and a feminine greens!  I'm not one to really be big in the girls wear pink and boys wear blue concept, but as a sensitive new mom I don't want people thinking my baby is the opposite s*x.  I chuckle at the concept now, but I may not be so easy going then!

It also gives family and friends something to hold on to, something to bond with the baby...  I mean, to them it's only something that kicks them every now and then!  Finding out the gender really helps give the baby an identity.  I know, I know, gender is a social concept, and is a little too black and white for me, but I'm not going to fight the social trends, and prevent this bonding from happening.

Picking a name is hard!  Having the chance to go in one direction will make life a little easier!  I also like the idea of referring to the baby as him or her, as opposed to "it"!!

If you don't want to find out the gender, you may have to avoid looking at certain ultrasound shots to avoid guessing the gender.  You don't get to see your whole baby then.

If you don't find out the gender, you still may have an idea in your head of what the baby is, and may still be shocked when it's not what you expected...

Now, I spoke with our diagnostic ultrasound tech, and he said that the best accuracy he could give us, with perfect clarity and with the perfect view would be 85%.  I'm sorry, but a minimum 15% error rate is a little high for me!

My youngest sister is over the moon about this baby, and wants to be at the ultrasound so bad.  I don't feel comfortable with her at a diagnostic ultrasound, in case there is something wrong.  I really want her to participate in the pregnancy, so we decided to go for a 3D ultrasound (I refuse to call it 4D!!).

The accuracy rate of the 3D ultrasound is 99.9% if you go late enough into the pregnancy, and get a good view.  Generally they'll let you keep coming for free until you do get a good view.

We're making a big thing about this, inviting all of our close friends and family to be there for ultrasound (lol, it's going to be standing room only), and we're webcasting it to four loved ones.  We're still getting our surprise, and our family and friends are still waiting in anticipation!  It's just a little sooner!

We'll have to see how it goes!  Good luck with your decision!

  6. it's not a surprise when your baby is delivered  :)

  7. Pros: Easier to plan for because you're able to pick out the name, colors, and pretty much put the nursery together.

Cons: No surprise and people tend to get you cutsie boy/girl clothes and accessories instead of your 'big' gifts.

  8. The only con I can' think of that hasn't been mentioned is that ultrasounds aren't always right. Even after finding out the s*x of the baby and buying and decorating everthing in that color, you can have the baby and it be the opposite. Some family of ours was told they were having a boy and bought everything for a boy and ended up with a girl.

  9. FOR :

can plan and decorate the room, get loads of clothes in the right colour, saves alot of hassle after the baby is born instead of buying everything in neutral yellow

can start to pick specific names

will be able to tell ur other child (if theyr old enough) that they are gona have either a brother or a sister

    AGAINST :

no suprise at the birth, leaves a bit of excitement

and thats all i can really think of for tht lol even tho id rather not find out the s*x just coz its more fun

  10. i would not be able to go 9 months without knowing since i would want to buy all kind of stuff but then again it will be a big surprise the day u give birth. good luck
